A couple months ago, a Japanese company called TokyoTreat reached out to me and told me about a new kawaii box called “YumeTwins” that they had just released! YumeTwins revolves around the Yume Kawaii culture which is a new movement that is a mixture of cuteness and fairytales with a touch of darkness. “Yume” means “dream“, so this style and genre has a magical and dreamy feel to it, and their goal is to share their love of Japan with fellow kawaii enthusiasts! I try to take on a limited number of reviews on my blog so that I can focus more on crocheting and crafting, but when they asked if I wanted to review one of their boxes, I knew this would be a great fit since I love Japanese culture, cosplay, and all things kawaii!
YumeTwins is a subscription service in which you sign up and get a box full of adorable and kawaii collectibles every month at your front door. TokyoTreat is based in Japan, so they partner with big brands to provide authentic, licensed merchandise such as Sanrio, Bandai, Takara Tomy, Amuse, and Re-Ment. Each month’s box contains a variety of 8-10 items ranging from adorable plushies, collectible keychains and figures, stationary, and cute accessories. I myself received the August 2016 box called the “Lovable Animals Box“!
I’ve actually never received any subscription boxes before, and it was such a thrill opening the box and being surprised with what was inside! Myla was with me when we received the box in the mail, and she was just as excited as I was to see all the cute goodies! As you can see, the box was packed full of a variety of Japanese items!
Inside the box was also a pamphlet explaining each item that was inside my particular box, including:
- Pompompurin Letter Set: colorful letter papers, envelopes and kawaii stickers
- Gudetama/Pompompurin/Hello Kitty Pen: cute pen with a character design
- Neko Atsume Memo Pad: notepad with designs on each page
- Shinada Fluffy Animal Plush: high quality animal plushie (I got the adorable fluffy blue bear)
- Amuse Alpacasso Plush: soft plush that is very popular at conventions (I received the pink one with a tutu)
- Gudetama Limp Mascot: lazy egg yolk character in the form of a squishy jello toy (kind of like those stress balls)
- Airou and Merarou Towel: cute towel from the popular series Monster Hunter (limited edition design)
- Re-Ment Mare Sweets Mascot: detailed charm toy (I got a cute dessert cupcake)
I am impressed with the variety and quality of all the items! Japanese items can be quite expensive, and TokyoTreat says that they pass the distributor rate to their subscribers, making the items in the box much cheaper versus buying them separately. You can choose to get only one box, or a recurring 3, 6, or 12 month plan (cheaper as you increase the number of months). You can cancel anytime, and they ship worldwide. If you love Japanese culture and collectible kawaii items, you can consider becoming a subscriber to get your hands on some limited edition items that are difficult to find. I always look forward to browsing the cute Japanese items whenever I attend an anime or comic convention, and this is a wonderful way for you to get them delivered at your doorstep!
These boxes would make unique Christmas gifts for friends or family, or for yourself as well (each individual item would also make great stocking stuffers)! It would definitely be very exciting looking forward to a unique box every month, particularly if these high quality Japanese items (some of them limited edition) are difficult to find where you live. If you and your friends all love Japanese items, you could also consider splitting the cost with them and sharing the items inside. Every month all the subscribers are entered to win a grand prize full of awesome treasures, and they also have photo contests in which you can enter to win free YumeTwins boxes and collectible items. It’s so neat that all the items come directly from Japan, and even the artwork on the packaging is very kawaii, dreamy, and fairytale-esque!
If you’re interested in Japanese snacks, you can also check out their parent company, TokyoTreat which offers a subscription plan where you receive full-size Japanese candy and snacks including DIY candy kits delivered to your doorstep! It’s always fascinating trying foods and snacks from other cultures, and you can be sure that you’ll be getting some cute and interesting snacks in your TokyoTreat boxes! You can check out how to subscribe to TokyoTreat HERE and to YumeTwins HERE! ***Their lovely team has given me a coupon code to pass onto my readers too: use the code “ALLABOUTAMI” to get $3 off when ordering your boxes! I’m delighted that we have these wonderful options to try new and exciting Japanese items!
