This was my battle! I’ll give you the tip that saved my cabling life ! The only way I can remember ! Lol.

Okay, now you have 2 forces crossing over and 2 crossings under, right ? So the one you always begin doing your front post double crochet in is the one closest to you from the TOP ! I’ll explain better:
I’ve attached a picture that I crocheted just for you:)
It’s showing the first two fptc in light coloured yarn and the second fptc that go on top of the first two, into the 2 skipped stitches.
Now look at the white ones (first 2 you made under the second 2)
Do you see how they are the next 2 stitches (if you werent crocheting cables,) looking at the top where you normally place your stitches ? That’s how you tell the next stitch to cable on. It’s the top of the stitch that is closer to you, because that’s the order you did it last row. You did the two that are under and the two that go on top across the bottom two, are the ones you crocheted after the bottom two.
So just think if it was normal crochet, you always go into the stitches from the last row in the same order, well the same here. You go on the post of the stitch that you made first in that set of cables 🙂
So look at the top of the stitch and it’s that one closest to your hook 🙂
Frig that was so hard to explain. I hope it helped !! My hook is pointing to the next one you will fptc into, always look at where the top of the stitch is and the closest one to you ! Look where it’s coming from and the top v’s will always tell you the order that they were made just like when you are crochetin normally into those too vs :))
