Hey everyone! I wanted to let you know about some changes that I have been making to the blog! Firstly, I have added a “Frequently Asked Questions” tab in the navigation bar above as people tend to ask similar questions…I thought it would be nice to compile all the questions and answers in an area so that everyone could benefit! Check it out HERE. I will keep updating this page with more questions that come along!
I also added a “Community” tab to explain what my “Crochet Corner” series is all about and how you can be a part of it! Check it out HERE!
These next updates might be useful if you yourself have a blog or if you frequently print items on the internet:
- I’ve added a feature called “Link Within” that shows related stories from my blog archive under each post. All you have to do is add a free simple widget to your html and you are set! Find out more about “Link Within" HERE!
- I’ve also added a ”Print“ button under each blog post which was developed by a site called ”PrintFriendly“. They format web pages for free by removing ads and navigation so that they are easier to print, allowing you to save paper and ink. You can check out the PrintFriendly site HERE and print to your heart’s content 🙂 This also means that you can now more easily print any blog post of mine (such as crochet patterns) by hitting the ”Print“ button found at the bottom of the post. Once you hit the button, you are given options to also print it as a PDF, e-mail it to yourself, manually remove any images you would like, and change the text size. It’s also very easy to install the "PrintFriendly” widget if you’re interested in it for your own blog too!
You may have also noticed that I now have a google ad on my page! I never started my blog with the hopes of making any money as I simply wanted to chronicle and document all of my crochet projects. People often ask me if I am interested in starting my own store and selling my creations so that I can make money from my passion for crochet. I know that I would grow tired of crocheting the same item over and over and I might get bogged down with orders. Providing content for the blog takes a lot of time and effort and I know that if I were to start a store, I would not be able to focus and devote as much time to doing what I love: blogging. I have also thought about perhaps charging for my patterns but I really did appreciate the free patterns that I came across when I first started making amigurumi, and I loved how it was accessible for everyone. I know people are very appreciative of my free patterns and I am happy to be able to provide them!
It never even crossed my mind to begin monetizing the blog, but as I did some reading, it was inspiring to see that many bloggers out there are living the dream and making a living on their blogs! I am a newbie to all of this, but I asked some of my friends who run successful blogs for advice and did some research into google ads and ad agencies. I think it’s amazing how I can continue doing what I love doing but also earn some money along the way. Being able to cover my cost of materials (as you can imagine, I buy a lot of yarn), web hosting fees, postage for when I send packages and prizes, and just being able to give back with revenue from the blog will be amazing. And so, thanks for your understanding as you might see more ads appearing on the blog and occasionally Amazon affiliate links to products that I blog about (I’ll let you know when I do)! If you ever see something wonky on the blog it’s probably because I’m trying to edit the html and figure everything out as I go along 🙂 I’m also in the process of redesigning my blog layout, so I am very excited for that!
Thank you for being such loyal readers and providing me with the viewership where I am able to earn some money doing what I love!
